Tremayne Ward-Smith is a photographer and filmmaker based in Cape Town. He shoots a diverse range of subjects focussed on premium catalogue work for commercial and editorial clients, all with a distinct style that intuitively engages a natural, cinematic and elegant aesthetic.

Born in Johannesburg, Tremayne Ward-Smith attended the University of the Witwatersrand completing his honours degree in documentary studies, visual arts and media studies. He further completed his undergrad in archaeology at the same university. He has worked in community radio, television and in the commercial stills and film industry.

His personal work focusses on long term series exploring and questioning the aesthetics and abstractions of the human condition. They consider a range of subjects that engage with human and environmental subject matter at points of confluence.

When he isn’t working, you’ll find him happily holding his breath while freediving through the great African kelp forest or tracking wildlife in the wonder that is the African bush.
